Eva’s Platform

  • Eva believes…

    • A good education is a human right.

    • Chronic absenteeism and high suspension rates must be addressed immediately.

    • Exclusionary punishment is an inequitable and an ineffective method of corrective action.

    • By integrating restorative practices and engaging openly with the community, we can effectively address behavioral issues and reduce absenteeism among our students.

    Eva will…

    • Challenge inequitable and ineffective policies that create barriers to education.

  • Eva believes…

    • Great educators are our biggest asset. They are also the most underappreciated.

    • Listening to our educators is how school boards build better schools and ensure students succeed.

    • PPS needs diverse educators to transform our classrooms and bring different and innovative perspectives to our schools.

    • Students of color and students in the lgbtqia+ community thrive in school when they have educators that look like and have similar lived experiences.

    Eva will…

    • Openly communicate and listen to educators.

    • Work with educators to create a healthy and thriving school environment that attracts diverse new hires while retaining the fantastic educators we already employ.

  • Eva believes…

    • It is the responsibility of the school board to ensure that each school offers its students a safe and secure environment.

    • Communities are affected by schools as much as schools are affected by their communities.

    • Schools begin as buildings but become the memories and history of every student, family, and educator that passes through its halls.

    Eva will…

    • Work to provide students with a school environment that fosters learning from the ground up.

    • Partner with community leaders to make sure our schools provide for their communities.

    • Team up with our school administrators and local historical societies to make sure that our school histories are properly archived, protected, and shared. Through proper archives, we can retain the heart of the school no matter what form the school may take in the future.

  • Eva believes…

    • Pittsburgh Public Schools have a duty to embrace, reflect, and protect the diverse communities that make Pittsburgh beautiful.

    • The students that leave our schools must have well-rounded educations so that they become empathetic adults with a strong sense of self and civic responsibility. Today’s Pittsburgh students are tomorrow’s Pittsburgh.

    • Censorship, persecution, and discriminatory policies undermine education, harm our communities, and endanger our future.

    Eva will…

    • Advocate for every student to receive an equitable education in a safe environment.

    • Reject attempts to ban books, revise history, or dilute truth in an effort to lessen, silence, or erase the diverse identities of our students.

    • Stand strong in their commitment to social justice, students, and Pittsburgh.
